Itar Pejo — one of the most famous characters in Macedonian folk tales, who is very popular among young readers. Itar Pejo, sometimes also known as Itroman Pejo or Itar Pejo - Marioec, is an ordinary poor Macedonian peasant from Mariovo who is distinguished by extraordinary cunning, resourcefulness and is also a representative of Macedonian joking wisdom. In the stories about him, he always slyly repays those who want to harm him (usually the Turkish greats), and his actions often force laughter and respect from the readers. There are no historical confirmations of his existence and he probably appeared as a counterweight to the Ottoman itromance and joker Nasredin Odza in the spiritual resistance of the Macedonian people against the Ottoman oppression.

The edition written by Stale Popov is required reading for the fourth grade.
