Чичко Горио – IV година

The novel takes place in Paris and shows the intertwined lives of two main characters: the old man Goriot and the naïve law student Eugène de Racitgnac.

The action begins in Mrs. Walker's boarding house. Several tenants live with her, among them: the young Victoria Teifer whose rich father does not recognize her as a daughter, the student Eugène de Rastignac who comes from an impoverished noble family from the province, Monsieur Vautrin and the former owner of the pasta factory, Goriot. He is a man about 70 years old, who has been living in the boarding house for several years. In his early years, he lives richly and the owner of the boarding house, Mrs. Walker, tries to win him over, but her plan fails. Since then, she starts hating Mr. Gorio, gossiping and making various plots against him, and the rest of the tenants accept this attitude towards him and openly mock and insult him. At the same time, with the passage of time, a great change occurs and Gorio begins to live in poverty and neglect.

The publication is a reading for the fourth year of secondary education.
