The White Gypsy is a novel for children by the Macedonian writer Vidoe Podgorec.
The book is about a child who was left during the war in a village. While fleeing from the occupier, a group of Roma found the child and raised him. The boy's name was Taruno and he had nothing to do with the Gypsies, but he learned to respect their customs, learned how to survive and earn a living by weaving baskets. His best friends were Nasiha and Rapush. The other people couldn't stand Taruno and called him the White Gypsy. Taruno was quiet and shy, and he tried several times to stand up to the village children, but always ended up in failure.
The publication is required reading for the sixth grade.
