Uncle Vanya – 1st year

The main idea of the play is a depiction of people full of emotional frustrations, or as Chekhov calls them, "people who have wasted their lives". The characters are unhappy, but unhappy in their own way.

The drama is the story of a wealthy Russian family that lives on a country estate. Professor Srebrajkov is married to the much younger Elena Andreevna, with whom both Uncle Vanya and the local doctor Astrov are in love. The love plot costs Sonya, who is deeply in love with Doctor Astrov. Apart from love intrigues, there are serious mutual misunderstandings and impatience in the family.
